Ordinary Thanksgiving Day 5

For yesterday, I was thankful for the comfort of God’s people, preaching, prayer, and the Lord’s supper. I know I cried through most of the service, but I feel more at peace after our service. God is gentle. God lifts us with truth, and I’m thankful.

Ordinary Thanksgiving: Day 1

Every year in November I do a short Thanksgiving post each day leading up to the holiday. It’s a fun tradition that sets the mood and let’s me practice being thankful.

This year I want to focus on ordinary things. I want to notice all the ways God generously cares for my physical needs in this temporary life.

So, day 1: today in thankful for mugs.

I love mugs. Short, tall, fat, skinny, thick, thin, ceramic, clay, or china. I have a small collection of mugs that make me smile. I like the way they feel in my hand, their pattern, their design. I love hot drinks and hot drinks shared with friends. My Mom has always said, “Coffee is a big in a mug.” If you were to make hugs solid and tangible, they would be mugs. 😁

And look at that picture! God would have been kind to provide me with one mug. That would have been fear more than I deserved. Instead, I have many mugs. God is so kind to me in ways that are so insignificant. He is a generous Father.

Thankfulness (Day 1)

For most of November, I’ll be posting daily thanksgivings in honor of the holiday. They’ll range from the personal to the universal, silly to serious, ordinary to spiritual.

Please share in the comments what you’re thankful for today.

Today, I’m thankful for this wonderful word. As a fantasy reader and writer, it is the thing I love most about the genre. I love the magic of seeing something normal in a fresh and unique way based upon the world someone created. The ordinary develops depth and longings for something just beyond our reach grow more poignant.

Imagination is a gift from God and I’m very thankful for it.

Happy Thanksgiving!
